Preparation for Testing Marlins Test
In this globalized world, the maritime industry is characterized by a growing diversity of crew members. Therefore, knowledge of English is becoming increasingly important for seafarers who want to develop their careers in the maritime sector. This is evidenced by the fact that many shipowners and other companies require candidates to provide a certificate confirming their level of English proficiency. In most cases, this is a prerequisite for being invited to an interview. The most popular certificate worldwide is the Marlins test. How does it work? Marlins English tests are conducted online and are designed for sailors of all nationalities. There are various categories of questions, such as listening, vocabulary, grammar, time and numbers, as well as pronunciation, to test knowledge of English (technical and non-technical). There are three different English language tests tailored to specific industries. The ISF Marlins English Language Test for Seafarers allows ship operators to demonstrate that seafarers of all nationalities have been assessed for their ability to communicate in English – a requirement that is given additional attention in the STCW and STCW Convention. The Marlins English Language Test for Cruise Ship Staff has been developed specifically for the cruise industry. The test is applicable to all positions in maritime hotels on board cruise ships and can be taken by any nationality anywhere in the world. The test questions focus on staff-guest interaction and customer service in a multicultural environment. The Marlins English test for offshore workers is designed for the oil and gas industry. However, it focuses on the ability to understand English rather than testing specific technical skills. It is suitable for all nationalities and positions, regardless of whether they are offshore or onshore. There is no time limit for taking the test. To register for a training course, you must provide copies of the following documents: 1. Ukrainian passport (pages 1, 2, 3, and registration), or ID card (pages 1 and 2 and extract), or permanent/temporary residence permit; 2. Taxpayer registration number (RNOIKPP) / (formerly identification number) 3. Working diploma with confirmation (for cadets: certificate from an educational institution, or cadet ticket, or record book); 4. Seaman's identity card (1 page and last voyage); 5. Ukrainian passport for travel abroad (1 page); 6. Medical certificate; 6. Photo 3x4.
